Usage guides and tips

Natural Calcium Boost Spray

Shake well before use.

Spray directly onto leaves – especially the undersides – until lightly coated.

Apply early morning or late evening to avoid leaf burn.

Use once a week during active growth or when signs of calcium deficiency appear.

Putting on Top of Soil

Sprinkle a thin layer of crushed oyster shells on top of the soil around your plants.

Gently rake or mix the shells into the top layer of soil.

This method helps improve soil structure and provides a slow-release source of calcium.

Apply once or twice a year, preferably in the spring and fall.

Putting a Small Amount Around the Base of the Plant

Take a small handful of crushed oyster shells and sprinkle them around the base of each plant.

Lightly work the shells into the soil with your fingers or a small garden tool.

This is particularly beneficial for young plants and seedlings support strong root development.

Repeat every few months for continuous benefits.

Mixing into Compost

Add crushed oyster shells to your compost pile or bin, mixing them in thoroughly.

Aim for a ratio of about 1 cup of crushed shells per cubic foot of compost.

The shells help balance the pH of the compost and provide essential minerals.

Turn the compost regularly to ensure even distribution of the shells.

Putting Dust into a Spray Bottle

Fill a spray bottle with water and add a small amount of crushed oyster shell dust (about 1 teaspoon).

Shake well to mix the dust with the water.

Spray the mixture onto the leaves and stems of your plants.

This foliar spray can help provide a quick boost of calcium to your plants.Use this method sparingly, as too much calcium can cause leaf burn.

Apply once a month or as needed.

Eco Pest Control Benefits of Crushed Oyster Shells

Barrier Against Slugs and Snails

The sharp edges of crushed oyster shells create a  physical barrier that deters slugs and snails from crossing. When sprinkled around plants, these pests are less likely to reach and damage your plants.

Repelling Nematodes

Crushed oyster shells can help repel harmful nematodes in the soil. These microscopic pests can damage plant roots, but the presence of oyster shells can make the environment less hospitable for them.

Attracting Beneficial Insects

Oyster shells can provide a habitat for beneficial insects like ladybugs and lacewings, which are natural predators of many garden pests. By attracting these helpful insects, you can reduce the population of harmful pests.

How to Use Crushed Oyster Shells for Pest Control

Sprinkle Around Plants

Simply sprinkle a generous layer of crushed oyster shells around the base of your plants. Reapply as needed to maintain their effectiveness and keep your garden looking beautiful.

Use as Mulch

Spread a layer of crushed oyster shells over the soil surface to create a barrier against pests and improve soil health.

Mixing into Soil

Incorporate crushed oyster shells into the soil to improve its structure and make it less inviting for nematodes.

Using crushed oyster shells for pest control is an eco-friendly and sustainable method that also provides additional benefits to your garden. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please get in touch using our contact form below.
